Frank Samuyo

Yoga Teacher, Long beach

My yoga journey began in Palm Desert about 21 years ago, when a good friend invited me to try a class with her because I was complaining about pain in my neck. My first class forever made its mark on me. It was super hot, in fact, so hot, and mat to mat. And the teacher was so funny. For the record it was his humor that helped me stay in the room when everything inside of me wanted to run!

Because of this I absolutely love it when I have new students in class. I love it because my hope is that they know there is no flexibility required; the only thing we do ask is that you try the right way to best of your ability and, breathe. I later found out the sharp pains in my neck, often debilitating, were because of osteoarthritis that had developed between the third and fourth cervical. My own yoga practice keeps my joints lubed up and osteoarthritis at bay! It’s my medicine!

Besides the benefits I felt in my body like my neck and lower back I noticed a change for the better when it came to mental health, focus, and my ability to deal with stress. So becoming a teacher was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made. Since 2009 I’ve been teaching all over the world including three of those years at my own studio in Playa Del Carmen MEX.

Sharing this practice and its marvelous benefits with everyone I possibly can was and is a total no brainer.
